Installed & Serviced by Shield Low Voltage

Utah’s ButterflyMX Installer.
From Buzzer to Butterfly.

The smartphone-first video intercom that multifamily residents ask for by name — designed, installed and serviced across Utah’s apartments, condos, HOAs and gated communities.

How It Works

The Key Is the Phone Your Residents Already Carry.

ButterflyMX’s bet is simple: stop issuing fobs and wiring handsets into every unit. The intercom at the door calls the resident’s smartphone — from anywhere — and everything else in the building joins the same app:

Video IntercomsThe flagship touchscreen at the entrance: visitors dial a directory, residents see video on their phone and open the door from the couch or another continent.
Virtual Keys & Delivery PINsTime-limited codes for guests, dog walkers and couriers — access that expires instead of circulating forever like a copied fob.
Keypads & ReadersAmenity doors, gyms, pools and garages on the same credential — one app from the street to the unit floor.
Elevator & Vehicle AccessFloor-by-floor elevator control and hands-free gate entry, managed from the same dashboard as the front door.
Package Room & Front DeskCouriers get one-time access to a package room, and staffed lobbies get a visitor-management station — the delivery-chaos answer.
Property-Management IntegrationsResident lists sync from the PM software your manager already lives in, so move-ins and move-outs update access automatically.
20,000+ buildingsOne of the most widely deployed intercom platforms in North American multifamily.
No in-unit wiringCalls go to smartphones — no handsets to install, service or replace in every apartment.
Renters know itThe rare access brand residents recognize on a tour — and count as an amenity.

Installs Done Right

The Intercom Is Easy.
The Building Is the Job.

A ButterflyMX panel is only as good as what’s behind it: the door hardware it releases, the network it rides, and the wiring that reaches every gate and elevator. That’s low-voltage work — ours:

  • Entrance engineering — strikes, maglocks and ADA operators wired so the door actually opens when the app says it did
  • Network and PoE — clean cabling and switching so the intercom never drops a video call
  • Gates, garages and elevators — the messy conduit-and-controller work between the app and the motor
  • New construction pre-wire — developer-spec rough-ins so the panel drops in when the lobby finishes

Existing Systems

Replacing a Dead Intercom?
This Is the Moment.

Half of Utah’s multifamily entrances still run brass-panel buzzers or telephone-entry boxes from another decade. When one dies, don’t rebuild the past:

  • Retrofits without rewiring units — the smartphone model means the old in-unit handset wiring can simply retire
  • Telephone-entry replacements — the monthly phone line goes away along with the static
  • Orphaned ButterflyMX systems adopted — installer gone? We audit, recover admin access and take over service
  • Phased rollouts — front door first, amenity doors and gates as budgets allow, all one platform

An honest word: ButterflyMX runs on a per-unit subscription — that’s how the cloud, the app and the integrations stay alive, and most properties fold it into amenity fees. If a subscription is a dealbreaker, or your building is a single storefront rather than multifamily, an access-control system or an Alarm.com doorbell setup may fit better — we install those too, and we’ll price it straight.

Where ButterflyMX Fits in Utah

This is the platform we recommend for new multifamily construction along the Wasatch Front, HOAs and gated communities tired of gate-clicker anarchy, student housing with its yearly turnover of credentials, and condo boards replacing a dead buzzer panel. Anywhere residents outnumber doors, the smartphone model wins.

Developers: we handle the pre-wire alongside the rest of the low-voltage package, so the intercom, access, cameras and network go in as one coordinated scope instead of four subcontractors.

Common Questions

ButterflyMX, Answered Straight.

Do residents need anything installed in their units?

No — that’s the point. Calls ring the resident’s smartphone app (or a phone number for residents without smartphones), so there are no in-unit handsets to wire, break or replace. The building-side hardware at entrances, gates and elevators is the whole install.

What happens to our old intercom wiring?

Usually it retires in place. The panel needs power and a network connection at the entrance; the decades-old handset riser can stay in the walls unused. That’s why retrofits are days, not weeks.

Is there a monthly cost?

Yes — ButterflyMX is priced per unit per month, which funds the cloud service, the app and the property-management integrations. Most owners treat it as an amenity line item; many recover it in rent premium and staff time saved on lockouts and deliveries. We’ll put the real number for your unit count in the quote.

Can it run our gates and elevators too, or just the front door?

The whole path: vehicle gates, garage doors, amenity spaces and floor-restricted elevators all join the same platform and app. That integration wiring is exactly the low-voltage work we do daily.

Our building already has ButterflyMX but nobody supports it.

We adopt orphaned systems: audit the hardware, re-establish admin access with the property, verify door and gate releases, and put a local Utah number behind it going forward.
