Over its own cellular radio, on its own battery. Cutting the internet or the power does not stop it — that is the whole reason a monitored panel is not the same thing as a camera app.

If you live in Salt Lake City, there is a catch worth knowing. The city has required verified response since December 2000 — police are not dispatched to a burglar alarm unless video, audio, an eyewitness or a guard confirms an actual crime. A plain sensor alarm, monitored or not, produces a phone call rather than an officer.
Robbery, panic and duress buttons are exempt, because a person pressed them. But for everything else inside city limits, verification is what turns an alarm into a response — which is why we put a camera on the alarm there as a matter of course rather than as an upsell.

Do I have to sign a contract?
No. Monitoring is month to month, with no term and no cancellation fee. Watch for companies advertising “no contract” while financing your equipment over 60 or 84 months — the monitoring is genuinely month to month, but you are still paying that loan for years.
Are you actually licensed?
Yes — Utah Burglar Alarm Company license #14207727‑6501. Utah requires it to sell, install or monitor alarm systems, and it is worth checking on anyone you are considering. The state keeps a public register, and it takes about a minute.
What does it cost?
Monitoring starts at $25 a month for the alarm on its own — panel, sensors, cellular reporting and 24/7 dispatch, month to month with no term. Video recording, smart home control and additional cameras are more, and we price those separately so you can see what each one costs.
Equipment depends entirely on the house, which is why we walk it before quoting rather than reading you a package price. You get the real number in writing at the walkthrough, with nothing conditional on signing that day.
Do I need a permit?
Most Utah cities require an alarm user permit, and several charge for false alarms after the first. Salt Lake City’s permit is free and does not expire until the system changes hands. We will tell you what your city needs — it is part of the job, not homework we hand you.
Can you take over the system that is already here?
Usually, and it is routine work. We test what is on the walls, tell you honestly what is worth keeping, and take over monitoring without ripping out sensors that are working perfectly well. Bringing an existing system across is almost always cheaper than starting again.
What if the power or the internet goes out?
The panel has its own battery and its own cellular radio, so it keeps reporting through both. That is the practical difference between a monitored alarm and a camera that lives on your WiFi — cutting the router silences one and not the other.
How long does an install take?
Most homes are a single visit. Larger properties, or anything where we are running new wire rather than using wireless sensors, can run to two. We will tell you which before we start, not after.
Is a DIY kit not the same thing?
For a small apartment, honestly, it might be enough. What you give up is sensor placement by someone who does it daily, PowerG range that reaches a detached garage, professional monitoring that dispatches without you, and someone local to call when it misbehaves. If a kit is right for you we will say so.
