Prism Series: Alarm.com’s New Commercial PoE Cameras

Alarm.com’s business camera line just leveled up. The new Prism Series™ PoE cameras bring up to 8MP resolution and VividNight™ color low-light video to the Alarm.com for Business platform — in dome and bullet bodies built for real commercial duty.

What’s new

Prism is the next generation of Alarm.com’s wired commercial cameras — sharper sensors, better night color, and the same single-cable PoE simplicity we design around every week. Models span flexible domes and bullets (VC7398PA, VC8295P, VC8498P/PA), so a storefront, warehouse aisle and parking approach can each get the right form factor on one platform.

The highlights

  • Up to 8MP — enough resolution to read what matters at a distance, not just detect motion
  • VividNight™ color at night — a blue hoodie stays a blue hoodie at 2 AM, instead of a gray smudge
  • Dome and bullet options — interior ceilings, eaves, loading docks and pole mounts all covered
  • One cable, one platform — PoE power and network together, recording locally and to the cloud, managed in the same Alarm.com system as access and intrusion

How VividNight actually works

Most cameras quit on color at dusk: the image flips to infrared black-and-white, and the blue hoodie becomes a gray one. VividNight tunes the Prism sensor to hold full-color video deeper into low light, so evening footage stays in color long after ordinary cameras have given up — and only falls back to IR when it’s genuinely dark.

It’s also adjustable, not take-it-or-leave-it: a Night Vision Sensitivity setting (Video → Settings → Image Settings in the Alarm.com app or website) controls how aggressively each camera holds color before switching. That’s a per-camera decision — a parking lot under good lighting can hold color nearly all night, while a dark loading dock is better served flipping to IR earlier — and it’s exactly the kind of thing we dial in during commissioning. Alarm.com’s VividNight reference has the settings walkthrough, and the Prism Series knowledge base hosts the data sheets for every model.

Upgrading or building out?

Prism slots straight into our commercial surveillance designs — new sites, expansions, or swapping tired analog cameras onto a platform your staff can actually use. We’ll spec the right mix of domes and bullets off your floor plan.
