Alarm.com V731B: The Wire-Free Camera for Gates, Garages, and Fence Lines

Every property has one: the spot that needs a camera and has no power within a hundred feet. The gate at the end of the driveway. The pergola. The fence line behind the shop. The detached garage. Alarm.com’s V731B battery camera — released this past January — exists for exactly those spots: 4MP video, completely wire-free, and with the optional solar panel it never needs a charging ladder trip either.
Coverage where wires can’t go
The V731B runs on a removable, rechargeable battery and mounts wherever you actually need coverage, not just where an outlet happens to be. When it’s time to top up you have three options: charge over USB-C, swap in a spare battery pack so the camera never comes down, or add Alarm.com’s custom-built solar panel and let the app simply report “Solar Panel Charging.” That turns previously impossible camera locations into twenty-minute installs: no trenching, no conduit, no electrician.
Still a real security camera
- Part of the system, not a gadget. Like every Alarm.com camera, it arms with your security system, attaches clips to events, and lives in the same app as everything else.
- Built-in spotlight. Illuminates and deters day or night — this is a deterrence camera, not a passive recorder.
- Advanced video analytics. It distinguishes people, animals, and vehicles, so the notification about a delivery driver reads differently than the one about a deer.
- Flexible placement is the feature. Fence lines, gates, outbuildings, RV pads, surveillance of that one blind corner — the mounting spots that make neighbors ask “how did you get power out there?”
- Honest tradeoff: battery cameras record events, not 24/7 continuous video. If you need round-the-clock recording on that spot, that’s a wired camera conversation — we do both and we’ll tell you straight which one your location needs.
Where we spec it
Detached garages and gates are the big two in Utah — long driveways where trenching would cost more than the whole camera system. For businesses, it covers yards, laydown areas and jobsites where power is a generator, not a guarantee.
